 Funding and Distribution

Up front funding

The major Hollywood companies are Warner Bro, Paramount, MGM, Universal, Sony Pictures, Walter Disney, 20th Century for and DreamWorks.  Such company make many films for the world markets. These companies are funded by share holders, they make profit from the royalties and private investors, also people buying the DVDs games ,merchandise and cinema viewing.

Avatar: This is an example of a film funding cost about 500 million dollars that was a box offices hit. The CGI(Computer-Generated Imagery)cost a lot of money.

However the British films industry is relative small compare to Hollywood and Bolly wood films. Some of the ways of funding are loans from banks or ask family and friends to help with the film it does depend on how big the movie will be. Another source of funding is you can go to the UK film council who would look at the movie and see if it is worth funding.

There are some writers who might have a good idea for a film and people might want to invest in the idea to make the film. There are various times festivals for new ideas for movies and this is where you can get a lot of publicity for funding.

Slumdog  Millionaire:  This is an example of a low budget film costing around about $8.5-10 million.

Some of these steps may be combined and, particularly in the case of small independent films, additional steps may be necessary. As you can see, there is a lot that goes on before a movie is ever shown to a paying audience.
